Soprano Sofia Karvouna was born in Athens, Greece and studied Law in National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 1987 she began her first piano lessons at National Conservatory, and continued at Athens Music Society with the conductor John Ioannides and the piano soloist Nilian Perez-Ioannidou. At the same time she studied theory of music (Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue) at National Conservatory with Argyris Kallianiotis, and opera with the distinguished tenor George Zervanos. She has also attended masterclass opera seminars with the prominent tenor Ryland Davies, as well as Early Music seminars with the lutist Chris Wilson.

As a soloist she has cooperated among others with the Athens Choir, the Friends of Modern Music and the early music ensemble "Lyrae Cantus". She is also a member of the Choir "Piraeus Harmony" and the vocal ensemble "Eklipsis". She has given solo recitals in almost every great music hall in Athens and other cities of Greece. Since 2000 she is a permanent member of the professional City of Athens Choir.
